Welcome to the GOALS Vertical Challenge homepage - your landing pad to gather info and get registered.
If you're new to the event, please use the "FAQ's" listed below to learn more - otherwise,  just click here to get registered and start collecting pledges!

1. What is "The Vertical Challenge"?

It's a fun ski-a-thon designed to raise money and awareness for GOALS.  The event is designed and intended to be community-oriented and family-friendly, offering all ages and skiing/snowboarding ability levels the chance to get involved.

2. So, it's not really a competition, then?

Not really.  Every participant will be competing for prizes based on how much money they raise - which is generally tied to how much they can ski/ride - but the event is more focused on working together toward a common goal than it is on creating competition.  In the end, you're really competing with yourself to see just how much good you can do for kids in future GOALS river programs!

3. How does it work?

The GOALS Vertical Challenge takes the model used for run-a-thons and adapts it for skiers and snowboarders.  To get started, just create a personal fundraising page by clicking here and finding the green "Participate in this Thon" button.  Add a few images, tell people why you're supporting GOALS, and start asking for pledges.  Your supporters can choose to make a flat donation, or can pledge per 1000 feet skied (Note: you're being pledged per vertical feet - not linear feet.  You're aiming for 20,000 vertical feet - nearly 4 miles of altitude!)

Collect as many pledges as possible before the event - then show up to Winter Park Resort on the morning of Saturday, April 9th ready to rip.  GOALS will hand you a tracking device that monitors progress - which you can check on a live leader board at the base area.  Following the event, you can re-live your day on a virtual trail map that has monitored your progress.  Ski or snowboard hard all day, then join us when the lifts close for an after-party/awards ceremony to celebrate your success - you might even leave with a prize from one of our generous sponsors!

4. How MUCH DOES IT COST?

Not one cent.  We ask all team members to set a goal of raising at least $300.   Raise $500, and you're a "GOALS VIP" who might just leave the event with one of the great prizes we're giving away.  Either way, you're raising money that will be used to continue expanding the programs we offer to kids who might not otherwise be able to participate.

5. DID I HEAR SOMETHING ABOUT A TEAM COMPETITION?

Perhaps.  Most of our Vertical Challenge athletes register as individuals - and are basically competing against themselves to see how many pledges they can gather and how many feet they can ski.  Click here if you're interested in recruiting 3 other friends that will compete aggressively for a unique team prize that's not available to the other athletes!

6. I LOVE THIS IDEA!  I WANT TO HELP, BUT CAN'T BE IN WINTER PARK ON APRIL 9TH.  WHAT CAN I DO?

You're not alone.  Many of our greatest supporters are a long way from Colorado - so we created a way for them to be involved.

You can't make it to Colorado for the Vertical Challenge, but you have friends who'd like to support a charity you believe in.  We've got young GOALS graduates who'd love to ski in the Vertical Challenge, but don't have much of a network to ask for pledges of their own.

When we connect you two, it's a real win-win.  You create your own fundraising page - even though you can't personally ski.  You're asking friends to support GOALS by pledging a GOALS graduate you've paired up with who will ski for you - and thereby help you raise money so that more kids can experience the same growth they did on a river expedition!  Click here to learn more about the "Substitute Skier" program in the GOALS Vertical Challenge.
